Kendra Corleoni, Escaped Slave, Felinoid Bounty Hunter

Now that we have a more finished version of the Bounty Hunter, we can expand Kendra to a full 300 points.  Felinoid is already 35, so I chose to simply expand her existing Bounty Hunter/Slave/Felinoid advantages for another 15 points to round out the character.  Thus, we can finally see Kendra without her race really slowing her down.  With those extra points, I’ve been able to expand on her slave background (evidently she was held by some snake-like civilization called the Slithians) and note her own race as a cultural familiarity/language, meaning she’s the most diverse of our characters when it comes to interacting with aliens.  I also have the points to really give her the pistol-slinging badassness that we’ve wanted for her since iteration 1, giving her an astonishing Beam Weapons (Pistol) of 19, including full-rate Dual Weapon combat and Fast Firing, meaning she can really lay down some firepower if she’s so inclined.

This is probably the close to the very final version of her.

This Kendra uses the more carefully tightened Bounty Hunter template.  The loss of options for Stalker or Impersonator don’t hurt her that much, and the superior DX and the Tough Guy talent means she’s actually quite good at the things that matter for her. I’ve chosen to move ahead by a step and go ahead and give her Dual Weapon Attack and Off-Hand Weapon-Training (Dropping her Penetrating Voice).  Her skill with a ship is greatly improved (thanks in no small part to her improved DX), and I’ve dropped Throw in favor of Gunner (Beams), making her a pretty competent pilot on a discount.  Not all of the changes I’ve made actually tracks with her template, but she struggles due to her high racial cost.  We’ll look into that more closely in Iteration 4.

I really wanted to give her Wealth (Struggling), but I couldn’t fit it into her disadvantages.  I like them the way they are.  As for her gear, her Vermillion has lots of character and we can see scavenger rules at work again, with an old, rundown ship.  We’ve also improved Kendra with the new Battleweave Bodysuit, which was built just for her, and given her a few additional useful items she might expect to carry, especially her cuffs for taking a target back with her, and tracers for finding her targets (not that she’s especially good with them, but why not?).

This comes to a total of about $16,000.  She has plenty of money to spare ($34,000 for bribes and such. She’s rolling in cash!)

This Kendra has far more options and is more cleanly designed than the last one.  She relies on her agility and her grace to get her through combat more than her armor, as her last incarnation did.  I’ve also given up, for now, on the idea of a dual-wielder.  She remains a gunslinger and because her Felinoid package cost so much, I was forced to buy down her ST to allow her to pick it up, making her certainly the weakest member of the party.  I also gave her penetrating voice because I wanted this kitty to have a roar.

I chose to follow up on that obsession by giving her a past as a slave.  I chose to go with an angry, resentful route: this is the reason she bounty hunts, to take down slavers and, perhaps, to get enough money to buy her family back.  This version is more “tough-and-angry” than the last one, who was tough-but-honorable.  And, to make her even more tragic, I’ve given her “Minority.”  Apparently, in Psi-Wars, nobody likes furries 😦

Psi Wars: Kendra Corleoni 1.1

If we’re going to have not-Star Wars, then we need some aliens. Sparriels would be my first choice, especially since they just came out and this would be a great opportunity to plug a great book, but given that I originally said that you should need nothing but the core books, space and ultra-tech, I have limited myself to those books for selecting an alien.  I could roll one up out of Space, but that would take too long to explain, so I’m going to use Felinoids from GURPS Characters (B261).  Everyone loves cat-girls, right? No?  Well, blame Pulver, then.

I chose to make her a bounty hunter because we need another combat character that contrasts with Dun Beltain, an agile, ranged fighter vs his tough, melee focus, and bounty hunters are generally the most badass non-Jedi characters, making her excellence believable.

Kendra was just as constrained with her options as Dun was, but I feel her character makes more sense.  Her disadvantages hint aa a tragic past very suitable for a space Bounty Hunter.  She’s suitably epic in combat (Skill 17, with Fast-Draw 15 and Gunslinger), and I suspect she will eclipse Dun, highlighting how problematic Space Knights might turn out to be.  I’m not sure how useful Criminology will be, but we’ll see.  I’m also not entirely pleased with Bioplas as an armor, but we’ll see how that works out.  Gunslinger is, of course, underpowered with just GURPS Basic.  I’ll be using the improved one from High Tech and Gun Fu, which is effectively errata.

EDIT: Kalzazz pointed out a mistake in the character.  She’s under by five points (which had previously been in her basic speed).  In keeping with the rest of the Space templates, this has been rectified in a terribly ineffecient manner XD
